Tips: Is the ceiling an air return or duct?

Almost all cabling/wiring comes in either of two jackets. A jacket is the outer sheath that protects the copper or fiber from damage. The two types:

1. Plenum: Required by some municipalities; regardless of ceiling type. In this case, your ceiling forms a giant duct for heating or cooling your air.

2. Non-Plenum (PVC): Your ceiling does not form a giant air return and plenum rated wire is not required by your local municipality.
